Dan Erchun 但二春 was one of Chinese cinema's first child actors. He was born in Shanghai, the nephew of Dan Duyu, founder of the Shanghai Yingxi (Shadow Play) Company, and made his film bow at age 6 in 1922's "The Sea Oath," the initial production from his uncle's studio. That same year, he had the title role in "A Naughty Kid," a one-reel comedy which was the first Chinese children's film. Throughout the rest of the silent era Dan Erchun appeared in 15 silents and made 3 sound films in the late 1930s, all with the Shanghai Yingxi studio.
