Several years ago, an anonymous collector donated a copy of Fei Mu's 1940 "Confucius," previously thought lost, to the Hong Kong Film Archive. Restoration work has been going on since then, and film scholar David Bordwell recently attended a screening of what has been done so far. He reports on the experience at his site.
